Is there a gender gap in the ICT job sector in Bangladesh? No one would bother to answer ‘yes’ to the question.
But how do you get an idea about the size of the gap? A recent study by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) shades some light on the issue.
Highest number of employment of women in ICT sector is in call centres, shows the study. About 49% of the manpower in call centres are female.
But female employment rate in 9 other sectors of ICT is below 25%. Percentage of women working in networking, hardware and animation is below 10%
75% of working force in these sectors is man.
